Some of you may have heard about the Stop Killing Games campaign that was recently launched and whose petition was signed by many players. This campaign aims to lead legislative bodies to enact a law that prevents game companies from “destroying” games that players have purchased, and that companies must offer a single-player mode as an alternative to multiplayer in the event that the servers of games like The Crow and Concord are shut down.

The European Union's Video Games Europe association commented on the campaign, saying that forcing developers to keep their game servers running would make developing service-based games extremely expensive. The association understands that shutting down game servers is frustrating, but the gaming industry is keen to inform players early and fairly.

The association also commented on the option of providing private servers, stating that it is not always available and that it opens the door to illegal or harmful content that could harm the rights holders of those projects.
